Ok this video in the SG blog entry on the new B&W pup just made me laugh and laugh at how sassy that pup is to Susan Garrett. What a great promotion for her puppy peaks class...

Ohhhh I feel like I have sooooo much to say about that post. But I will hold my tongue, and I will hope to heaven that that puppy is EXACTLY who she appears to be on the video... Because ol' SG could learn some very important stuff from that puppy....

Seriously what do you think? Did she pick this puppy because she knew she'd be trouble and good for enrollment ?? She's fibbing about how attached the pup seemed at first ??

She's very clever to let people see that puppy blow her off.

These are the lines/quotes from her blog that really get to me... and not in a good way:

And, in addition, at the time she also appeared to have a strong attachment to me.
Miss Momentum transformed from “attached” to “attacking”, from “brilliant” to “bullying”, from “sweet” to “sinful” and from “self assured” to “self absorbed”. I went from calling her fun, fearless and fascinating to other words that started with “F.
However until I direct what reinforces her in her environment towards what I like, she is going to continue to find those “naughty” but oh so fun for a puppy reinforcements on her own (hmmm, controlling much?? WHY not use what the puppy finds reinforcing to your advantage???)
and!
"Confident puppies are often labeled as “independent!” The former is something you work with… the later is something you end up working against!"

Sighs..

Playing the collar grab game with Momentum. (bet Mo loves that..)

Did Susan Garret drop you on your head when you were a baby?

I just wish some of these people would take on a non-BC to show their "expertise." But don't use derogatory terms like "when pigs fly." There should be a middle ground.

hahahahah! THIS!

Maybe there's a little Gordon Girl in that little black and white pup!

What an INTERESTING exchange this is on SG! First I have a question. She makes such a big point of her choice of keeping a black and white Border Collie. Is there a difference in temperament in the colors? It will be interesting to see how this dog pans out for her. It will be very hard on her pup, I think. All her dogs get a lot of crate time, yes? I think Rosie's thought that this dog may end up being smooshed is probably what will happen. It would be nice if SG found a different way of working with her.

yeah, color... pfft. No, there's no difference. But I do believe as humans we can be more "connected" to a color/type that reminds us of things we loved/enjoyed before. I think we put those emotions on color.

I LOVE red dogs. I certainly DO!! But I have one, and when Rumble came, his color was of little importance to me (in fact, I'm generally NOT a fan of blue merles AT ALL!)

That said, I think my next dog will be black. My heart is leaning that way.

I'm sorry I hijacked you post and made it a soap box for my options on how we should approach training our dogs. I do think SG is on it as far as method and success. I have witnessed her compete many times, and there in lies a good deal of my bias, also I just never could get behind the rough love, and nothing for free concepts. Doesn't mean they don't work, they're just against my grain. Mostly, if that video is accurate, I just see a fun and lively puppy. I hope she keeps all that fire into her adult years. That's all.

Wait wait wait. There was no hijacking. I always want to hear what you think Rosie. And I'm with you on that tough love. I bought the book and COULD NOT DO IT.

Love the puppy! Go Mo, go - get in that lake and splash in mud. I do think that SG is very successful (obviously) and i also was really turned off by Tuff Luv - couldn't do it either. I think she's moved away from that, though, hasn't she? I could be wrong.. or just fantisizing because I want it to be true :) i have learned a lot from her over time about different training, I have to admit (2x2's and crate games - which my dog's love) ...... ah SG.

the 2x2s were great for Stella... if I can find my dvd we will do it with Razzle too. crate games I know is wonderful too, but funny I have never gotten all the way through the video yet... we are doing the first 20 minutes

I think crate games are very valuable. And I also love 2x2s.

When I was in the Recallers class I posted a question about what parts of Ruff Love I could ignore. her terse response was, basically, that it's all valid and important. She also did not appear to be happy that I asked the question!

I think you're right that she may have moved beyond that, but I don't think she's ready to admit it.

i think she DOES control her dog's reinforcers. They don't get to just hang out with the other dogs all day long.

I think we are so lucky to have the SG option out there as well as the ST option and any other online course... so lucky its available to us where ever we are, and even though maybe none of them would like us to mix and match their info to make our own smorgasbord, I think its a good thing
