not naming any names but

Why would you choose tough love when there are more pleasant ways to the same end?

How do you handle teaching a dog not to jump on tables and counters when it seems (I project of course) what makes it rewarding is not only what the dog can reach by doing this but even more so that he is not supposed to do it and knows this and gets a kick out of the challenge of knowing his opportunities when he sees them to be bad?

Laying myself out here:

People who chose to use adversives (is that spelled right? looks weird). are THAT type of person. Just like the sunshine and roses people are "those types" of people. I do honestly believe that you HAVE to be true to yourself in dog training. Dogs can smell a liar, and it either confuses them, or jacks them up, or shuts them down. A dog who "believes" what is being communicated is going to learn much more quickly what the rules are, what's expected of them. Etc.

I also don't believe that a dog -- any dog-- does something "because they know it's wrong/bad" I believe dogs who seek attention will do things that get them "attention." Good or bad attention are OUR definitions. I work with so many dogs owners call "bad" or "he's doing it on purpose" well... yes he is... he IS because it gets him attention, and that's what he wants.

How you choose to give your dog attention, and how much, and WHEN is up to you. But the type of attention you give him makes no matter to him. It's attention, and that's what he wants.

End rant.

I was thinking video would be more effective but then if I tried to recreate the moment he might actually hurt himself
