I do DAP puppy series, 8 weeks and 12 weeks, sometimes at 16 weeks too depending, then I boost it a year later and call it good for life. I give rabies every three years as stated by law until they are around eight or so, then I usually back off unless we are doing some travelling.

I am lucky that I have a progressive vet that does not push vaccines on my pets. Emily & Butters both had a minimal program where as puppies they received at 8 weeks old a just parvo vaccine (not a combo, just parvo) at 11 weeks a just parvo vaccine and a just distemper vaccine, 14 weeks just parvo, 17 weeks a Dhpp combo vaccine. I generally wait as long as I can to get their rabies. They had to special order in the single vaccines as most vets only carry combo vaccines. They have not been boosted since (I do titer tests). Rabies is harder because it is a legal issue, but both Butters & Ricky had reactions to their Rabies vaccines so the vet writes them an exemption letter that the county accepts with a titer.

So I don't know if that puts me in the smart people department or not:) But I have Goldens, and for them auto-immune disorders and cancer are the greatest realistic threats and I am always willing to put them at a little greater risk perhaps for things like distemper that is not common in our area in exchange of not assaulting their immune system any more than I have to.

We have four vets all with different approaches. I am trying to figure this all out.

I have very lithe respect for Dogs Naturally magazine after they blocked someone's posts on their Facebook page because they were stating facts and figures concerning the spread of Rabies worldwide (she is an epidemiologist).
I follow the laws in my state concerning Rabies, my puppies get the vaccines recommended by my veterinarian for the first year or two and then I do titres if I need them for travel, etc.

Yes that is annoying blocking. Discussion is a good thing. Should be welcomed
