my hands

I use my hands a lot. I think I send Stella to the moon sometimes. Big gestures in the air.
Especially when she gets confused, I end up standing still or something and I'm all trying to move her with my hands. So OMD Challenge #3 was made for me. OMD has my number. As it turns out hands are much less important than your legs or your chest or your eyes.
I thought this would be really hard for us. I was so worried when I was walking the little course challenge. But, then you cut a hole in the garbage bag for your head and slip it on and something happens---it changes your brain. In a way that say just tucking your hands in your pockets doesn't. It forces you to have a different physical perspective. Anyway we did fine, I was very surprised and happy with how the challenge came out for me and Stella. We ran it twice with the garbage bag and then for our next turn we ran it without the bag but still trying to handle it the same way as with. I think I want to do more of this.

You did a great job! I'll have to try this with my dogs when the weather clears.

Can you run a trial in a garbage bag?

I admit, I really love watching these :-) I'm so dependent on my monkey hands, and you know, it's easier for me to figure out what you want in that second video, but obviously not for Stella, you know? So educational.

i really didn't think it would be as easy as it was for us... or rather I thought it was going to be a lot of trial and error, I thought she might even be spooked a little by the bag, but no... the bag did not seem odd to her at all. which is like wow? really? my hands don't matter at all to you? if it wasn't for the avalanche outside the first run would have been great... you find yourself having to communicate with everything else you've got and one of the things I found, with the bag I use my legs much more forcefully. I should remember that---to use my legs clearly.

Yes I wondered about the bag freaking her out a bit. Was the run the first time she saw you in it?

yes, I had never put one on before. I put it on and got her out of the crate and went

Why thank you. I believe I am indeed a bag lady for reals and it scares me

Whenever I see this exercise (and believe me, they've been doing it for years, way before OM peeps) -- it always blows me away. Our hands really DO talk too loudly, and often don't say what we intend, but you certainly ran differently with the bag on. And so did Stel! Great job.

thats what I keep hearing that people have been doing this garbage bag exercise for years... I could have used it long ago, I guess not something my instructors would be into...

I felt she was more closely in tune with me (and maybe vise versa?) with the bag

Oh no you didn't.

And if we relied too much on our hands without Soshana threatened to make us put the bag back on!
