damn squirrels.

we will get through it. I just have to go through a little mental adjustment period...
looking back now, it was maybe some squirrel action, but the actual tearing probably occurred at our indoor class in CT--I am not a fan of their flooring--she made a fast tight turn and I remember looking back to see her hind end skidding out weirdly and then next obstacle she caught her hip in the poles--never happens... I would say that was the moment... she's got a big heart, she kept working in the class, but then that night in the class at the big space she WALKED the DW (and I thought it was a freakin training issue plus just too much class in one day) and people also commented she was "pacing"
so I kept working her, got her adjusted, but vet/chiro didn't catch figure the problem, just diagnosed normal agility wearandtear and so the real injury wasn't caught for another week - furious with myself

did i say this all already? i'm just processing, sorry

Hey... say it! It's your blog and you can complain if you want to.

We TRY to understand what they're telling us, but it's very hard. They don't speak english... tho they seem to understand it.

Razor has this thing when his neck is bugging him. One of his ears goes a bit crooked. It took me about 2 years to notice it regularly. But then that ear goes down... we stop everything. And he gets a massage.

I hope Stel is feeling ok now, and just needs to rest that stuff to be all better.

ok, i'm going to watch her ears now... like if one goes up?
Mar. 14th, 2012 05:11 pm (UTC)
whoa! I'm not sure that's a signal for ALL dogs, but it certainly is with Razor. Can you even FIND the ears on Stella?? (joke!)

I think they can start to favor a side, go slower, walk differently... it's all about them as individuals... so you have to learn to read your dog, that's for sure.

she actually has very expressive ears but i was KIDDING
Mar. 14th, 2012 06:17 pm (UTC)
whew!! My kidding radar isn't working too good today. Bad day at work :(

You mean the upstairs floor, not Hamden. I almost took a flying leap there myself when my shoe caught on the floor.

i remember that flying almost fall that could have been REALLY bad! yes, not hamden

Ohhh, bummer. I am so sorry. The time will go by quickly, and if it makes you feel better, she will be healed by summer;) Best time to play anyway.

yep, yer right. i just have to be really good, stay on top of it, like right now, I forgot to ice her when we got back from our leash walk---ahhhhhh
Mar. 14th, 2012 04:32 pm (UTC)
Bummer. Find some cool trick (or two or three) to teach her.
Mar. 14th, 2012 05:07 pm (UTC)
Yes--I know there are few we could be working on!
Mar. 14th, 2012 06:01 pm (UTC)
Sorry to hear about the forced lay-off but maybe you can use that time to do something you don't normally have the itme to do. Some reading? some writing?
I hope that by entering her in the trial at the end of 6 weeks she'll actually be in good enough shape to jump, etc. Won't she be out of shape from not getting to run around?
This is where that 2nd dog comes in really handy...

I think the plan is, as soon as she is moving well again and has the left side elasticity back, the PT will start her on an exercise plan little by little to rebuild her hind end and that when he said no trialing for six weeks, he meant we will be building her toward a trial level of fitness before that... it means hard work for me he said... and leash walks in the park will maintain some tone... but I do know not to rush it and of course I will pull her from the 6-week event if there is any doubt she's up to it. this is our second time through this (same thing two years ago) and so because its a re-injury I know we have to be more careful

I didn't realize she'd done this before. Poor Stella and poor you for having the whole thing to do over again. Did you have to pull her from any online classes?
Mar. 14th, 2012 10:22 pm (UTC)
yup---two years ago I SAW it happen... chasing a squirrel in the backyard. those ridiculous grey fuzzy things are like crack!

oh, the online classes... well, RC1 with Daisy I'm only auditing so thats ok... MMM is done, she's just letting me linger cause I re-upped... RC with Silvia is on a two week break and I will tell her when we are back and its almost over anyway and she won't be giving it again until the fall or at least thats what she said in December... Tricks just finished and that was an audit, really just a way to put more trick training ideas in our bag of tricks for the future and I guess the future is now, I fell way behind and it didn't matter. Foundation finished quite a while ago... Really the only onliner thats really active is for me--Athletic Conditioning for Agility

I'm thinking Silvia's handling in the summer maybe? Whats your online class life like?
Mar. 19th, 2012 01:46 pm (UTC)
The only online class I've taken so far is DP's Mental Management and Goal Setting Class. I have subscribed to SG's Puppy Peaks which I got for $20/month. I'm about ready to let that go but I get so many good ideas for my foundation classes that I've allowed it to roll on for too long.
I love all the online class options there are now. I only wish they didn't rely so heavily on video since I dont have a camera and don't expect to be able to afford one any time soon.
As much as I love the options, there's nothing like working with a good teacher in real life. I got so much from the two day seminar with DP that I'm still digesting it two weeks later.
Hope Stella is well along her road to recovering.
