Our first Xmas gift of the year: that one last snooker Q we needed for nationals THANKS TO a Judge with a big (major eyebrow-raising) heart...

B is home from college and I tried and failed to get us into a trial nearby for this month so B could run with Stella on xmas vacation... and so we could hopefully get that last elusive snooker Q... I actually entered yesterday's trial thinking because the club's location is pretty nearby, so would the venue, but the venue is actually two and a half hours away and so we would need to get up at 4:30 a.m. (B is not a morning person) to get there for her walk-throu...
So we barely got there--Barto--on time and Stella is like eighth dog on the line after a weird up-before-the-sun and no-off-leash-run into the car morning and this place is new to us, Stell's never run on astroturf, so many new OMG incredible smells, sheep been here obviously etc etc so exciting and B, well she has a great bond with Stella, but she has not been handling Stell since the summer... so ok... of course this is what happens:

Stella has not done THAT since we started trialing two years ago... well she did do that her first time at Dream Park too.
But yesterday after B finally got her and was heading out of the ring, the judge told them to hold her card and he went running after B to tell her to go out, collect her dog and run again after the last 20-inch dog... RUN AGAIN, a DO OVER!
and so then this is what happened:

A snooker Q. The Q we needed. Bonus on the bonus: A blue ribbon too. A lot of people had a lot to say about it. We heard mostly the nice things. When a woman came over to tell us she'd never in her life seen that happen before, I said I thought maybe the judge was in the spirit of trying to encourage more young people to continue into the sport.

the rest of the day went well. The deal was it was really B's day, but I ran Standard, a little rough around the edges, but a blue Q with a really nice teeter considering it was one she'd never been on before and tho really high Stella got her AF contacts... B ran the rest, Fullhouse was a red Q, and Jumpers with a bar knock was a yellow Q, it was actually a really uncharacteristic plow-thru like she didn't even see it but otherwise a good run for them... and we were so freezing even all wrapped up in polarfleece blankets and B was hungry because there was no vegetarian food there except chips, plus that 4:30 wake-up was well, someone took a picture of the two of us napping together in our chairs and said she'd send it to us, but so anyway we bailed on the second round of Jumpers and headed home.

he was generous with contact calls with certain really earnest or semi handicapped peeps too... plus there was one handler who always wears all pink, pink barrettes too, something about "the power of pink" and he stopped the trial the first time she ran on sunday to put on a a pair of pink running shorts (over his pants) and pink knit hat... yah, he was fun and upbeat and very positive

What a great judge! Isn't it wonderful when the judge truly wants the handlers to have a positive trial experience.

I noticed too, when I was working ring crew from the chair by the AF, that with the peeps who were having a lot of physical trouble getting around the ring, as well as the peeps trying really hard with hard to handle dogs he was giving them breaks on contacts when the dog was close...
