So sad. I've known enough dogs who have had this happen that I watch my boys very closely when they are playing in the water and I limit their water play time. I imagine for a little dog like that, it wouldn't take much time at all for this to happen.

I had no idea about this... Stel hates retrieving from the water specifically for the mouthfuls of water---she won't do it.

Heather had this happen with Haku. He was VERY sick, if I remember correctly.

Yes that is exactly who I was thinking of. Not to mention the old problem of kids taking E and drinking too much water

I'll need to be very careful with Joey. I think he was getting some water while he was swimming last year. We need to leave up our lake path fence, too. I'd never heard of this.

As long as there is no algae bloom I'd like to be able to leave it down a lot though this summer. I'd like the puppy, who is bound to be water-loving, to encourage Stella to swim and play in the water... We ought to be able to keep an eye on our dogs????

A little bit of water won't hurt them, the amount depending on the size of dog. Slider does not take much water in when he retrieves in water. I have to watch Merc because as he turns to chase the toy, he will bite the water as he races out. Steam and Davy both like to splash and bite water. When we play in water, we retrieve and then walk around for a while, then retrieve, then walk, etc. That way they can have lots of the water time that they love but they aren't constantly ingesting water. The water splashers/biters are the ones you really have to watch. This goes for playing with water from a hose too.
