Stella's Feet

In a way too brisk grooming before our Freestyle Seminar yesterday I snipped Stel's rear toenails too short... and after i cut the first quick on one foot yu'd think I'd be more careful on the next foot, but no... and one was worse than the other, when I finally got the worser one to stop bleeding with cornstarch, Stel licked it open again... and AAAAAHHHHH we had to go dancing in a couple hours... again I got it to stop and bound it up so she wouldn't lick it open again on the hour or so car ride.

So anyhow, Stella loved dancing with me! All new. That wild fun in her eyes! What ARE we going to do NEXT??
There were only four of us (4 peeple plus dog partners) in the two hour seminar so we accomplished a lot---very intense. I don't know if this is actually something we'd continue to do, but I'm going to go so far as picking some songs to fit the way she moves (an interesting exercise in itself--we need a video of us moving in a circle and changing directions at "her good cruise speed" to try out with different sound tracks) and then choreograph a routine... just for fun. The teacher had us do an uber simple routine, with some of the individual moves she taught us, at the end of the class... so we could basically see how to do it. When we make-up our own, she said we have to come up with a starting pose and finishing pose we can hold... and 10 second bunch of just some freer stuff the dog likes to do to add in the middle.

By the time we got home Stel was licking her nail again--stoopid stoopid me, gah, if only my dremel wasn't full of battery acid--so I bandaged the foot again and amazingly she left it on all night, only to tear it off this morning. I was worried about infection, so I put my sox on her to go to the park. I think I've apologized to her 28 times. I have to buy a new dremel. I clearly suck with clippers.

That's sort of a ewe look she's got going on there. Brown coat with black feet. ;)

I used to nick Ruben a lot. And it sucked. Blood everywhere. Razor has much lighter colored nails and Rumble's are ALL white = love. So far so good that I've not cut the Bums... Razor, I might have a time or two, but rarely.

Aww, I've done that to dogs too, and I feel awful. But then I've also had dogs who scream bloody murder with every snip of the nail clippers whether I've quicked them or not.

I worked briefly with a trainer who was obsessed with freestyle, and so Jodah and I learned a little. It's not my thing, I think, but it was super fun teaching him unusual tricks :-)

And I love the idea of finding music that fits the dog - there's someone locally who teaches heeling that way to make sure the handler keeps a good steady pace that's right for their dog. She used "So Happy Together" for her beagle, which was so freaking cute I couldn't stand it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd_O-WHnQVc
