We have vote by mail, so we voted two weekends ago. What do you think of vote by mail? A lot of people don't like it, but it was super nice to sit with Tammy and discuss issues and share knowledge and then just mail them off. The booth thing bugs me mostly because it can be a hassle for people to get where they need to go to do it. Plus, SLOOOOOW OLD PEOPLE! (sorry but it's true, like at a grocery store) makes me nuts.

I totally see the convenience. I do.

I do worry about voter intimidation, though. Elderly people, intimidates spouses, and so on.

Those things can probably happen with onsite voting too, but the bottom line for me anyway is turnout.
Oregon has consistently the highest percentage of voters. This is because they make it EASY to vote. AND because people can take the time to be informed and read ballot measures, etc.

Agreed....mostly. Voting in person, I couldn't force person X to vote any which way, since ballots are secret. That's not an issue for me, but I sure bet it could be for some people, living at someone else's mercy ("grandma, I won't bring you your meds unless you show me that ballot marked write-in for my friend Joe Shmo, here").

Thing is, so many seniors especially vote absentee that I don't think that a mail-in ballot system would change much there. But I still worry, and I like that they have the option (assuming they can stand up long enough to make it through line - that would be grueling for some).

Larger voter turnout overall would be a beautiful thing.

We have mail in ballots and early voting, but I really like to go vote on election day. I used to have to go early before going to school and then sometimes there'd be a line, but today at about 10 there were just a few people ahead of me. I like seeing the neighborhood people that I run into on my dog walks.
