from mudi to muddy

I think I will get a Mudi to deal with the mole problem next year. I saw a really cute one running at the trial in Stephentown over the weekend... i wonder, do they have hair or fur?

I didn't camp at the trial in my car Pearl as planned and paid for... Friday night went down into the 20s and Saturday night was in the low 30s. I am NOT that hardcore. I made the hour and a half plus commute (speeding) and it was fine. I forgot my gloves. They delayed the start of the trial so the contacts could defrost and dogs wouldn't slip on the ice.

Saturday we ran three for three Qs, our first time running Advanced/PII in Standard and Gamblers and Stel got all blue ribbon placements... Good girlycue!!!! Most importantly earning our FIRST Pairs Q - finally, running with a team we'd never met (I had much trepidation about this), a jolly man and his 16-inch jumper freckled face mix named Ziggy. He wanted us to take the sequence with the weaves because Ziggy had been blowing weaves and Stel was acing them, but then what happens? Stel pops out, has to get them on a second try and SOOOO we have to peddle to the medal to make up lost time which we did, whew!
A whole lot more men seem to be running at this trial than I'm used to seeing. Like 30 % were guys, which I don't know why but I think is a good thing. I also got a wintersky sunburn or maybe it was also windburn. I lost an earring.

Sunday it was colder (no wait it was actually a little warmer but felt everything-wet-chill worse) and raining. It was supposed to thunderstorm, but thankfully just rained. : )  Our Standard run, well, Stel got off the table when the judge said go but he hadn't finished saying go... and also second to last obstacle was a tricky send backwards to a tunnel from the weaves and she didn't even see the tunnel entrance, my FC was too big, needed to be tight and I accidentally sent her over the last jump backwards instead... lesson learned. I watched only one or two people in Masters and Advanced Q on this judge's snooker courses... Starters/PI was the same and actually Stel was the only dog in all Starters/PI to Q---no one would ever have guessed it was going to go that way from the looks of our start, Stel was all worried about the wildass Golden that ran before us and took forEVER to leash up and then the oblivious handler stood in the exit shoot chatting while Stel ran back and forth along the fence panic-barking at them, but somehow I got her head and it was not the lead-out start I planned but she was then locked into me, we snookered that snooker course--just beautiful---I'm totally proud of that blue ribbon. Plus it was our Snooker PI title, so we got a fancy rosette ribbon too.

I was going to bail on the Jumpers run and start the 3 1/2 hour trip home to Bklyn while I still had energy... but, the sun came out. I hung with a friend and then this Jumpers course that should have been a piece of cake... well, after jump #7 Stel ran off, peed in the pool. Anyone who knows me, knows I am a maniac about peeing Stel before every run, maniac... and I know, I am the first to say no excuses for a dog peeing in the ring, but but but but but the trial was running behind and I'd just walked off from walking the course and they were calling for Stel immediately and my car was parked right next to this ring, so I barely got her to stretch, no warmup at all, I also had to pee, and ran to the start line...

(they used to be white and blue)
My shoes are mud soaked/stained. I can't imagine they will ever be the shoes they once were. Not really sure what to do about this. Hose off the worst and then throw them in the washing machine?

If you hose off the shoes really well and then soak them in a bucket with soapy water and rinse again, you should get rid of enough dirt to be washing machine safe.

Congratulations again on your weekend.

moles: What did you think of the dry ice under a tarp near holes idea? Maybe it's too big an area now.

I am willing to try anything... I think it takes luck, or really knowing moles... I stamped down their new network of tunnels which fyi now runs right up to the front door and your window... I selected what seemed like the most significant holes and set the new JAWS traps, but I think this last weekend may have dormant-alized them... no new or old tunnels popped up after that and the traps are unsprung... do they hibernate, I imagine they must

in other news I put in new wire fence (a little over $200) along the property line along the stone wall and back to the hedge... good I did because the deerfencing was sagging precariously in spots... I still need to finish the section that comes back from the wall parallel to teh road ,back to the stanchion driveway entrance this fall... At the lake's edge, can maybe wait til spring... there are spots along the hedge that need reinforcement too, but I think the deerfencing can continue to work fine there as long as we check it

Oh! and get a Mudi!!! man that would rock.

I'm pretty sure Mudi fur is just plain ol' dog fur... Not non-shed..

Pumik have the non-shed hair... Not Mudi.

I think people confuse the two all the time, tho they really look nothing alike, 'cept maybe size.

welllllllll its complicated... we do have two cats... but where we have moles in CT we also have a road with cat-crushing cars... so they are inside cats because cats don't know nothing about dogfences and this year the moles abound... I don't know why, everyone is complaining about the rodent explosion, a banner year and everything is making me think about moles now, how to get rid of them, they are driving me crazy... crazy crazy... if only they liked to cross the road

Moles have been crazy-bad in my back yard this year too. I figure it has something to do with the crazy weather.

And I have a dog with a very strong prey drive who kills cute fuzzy things all the time, and she hasn't brought me a mole yet. :-/ Not even with the other dogs helping her dig (and dig, and dig, and dig).
