making great strides and not great strides

This videoed session is far from short and fun… we were struggling on the DW this morning and for whatever reason I couldn’t just let it go… and then well, we did have success eventually, BUT

We have a new issue I think…

I was able to rent the arena for a half hour this morning—they are packing it up for the winter : ( —and I am sure I had her do too many reps (25--with a break 2/3 way through) but except for the last few runs she was LEAPING and HIGH and her strides were all over the place with some breaking into trotting and often just looking weird…

So now after looking at the video over and over in the editing I now think I know what is going on… I think I mentioned that she was licking and licking her right hind foot and I couldn’t find anything wrong with it except right above one pad it looked a little red… well, I've decided she must have caught her toe ON or IN the small gap at the apex on our homemade DW (on one end the plank sticks up a little higher than the center board) because to me it looks like what she is doing is EVERYTHING SHE CAN to miss those two apexes in this video… those are the places she changes her striding and she just seems worried, which I didn’t see til I saw the video----and then, its not really til after we take a break (at the 2:30 point) that she gives me more confident and more even striding all the way across and as a result, better hits…
ok--so now what to do? how to get her past this… worry? Her toe seems fine, she never was lame... but one of those apexes jumped up and bit her and just when we were making great strides we're suddenly not.

I was thinking the same thing this morning, too many reps. Don't over think it, it looks great, less reps!

so when having fail... just stop... try again later? I'm sure thats the best advice... what instinct tells me to do... I guess whats pressuring me is I don't have much "later" before the snow... and I don't want to drop the training... not trial for another six months... ACK!

Oh christ, that was me. Why would my computer log me out, I'm the only one who uses it?
I don't necessarily mean stop after *one* fail but I would walk away if I had many. If you think of it the other way around, what can be accomplished when both of you are frustrated, Stella is tired and your arm is sore from heaving that ball!

And I totally understand how frustrating it be to have such limited access to equipment. You feel like you *have* to get it right *now* because you don't know when later will be! I don't know what Silvia says (her dogs are energizer bunnies) but I think less is really more at this point. 36ft x 25 reps = 900 feet. That's a lot of running!

I think she looks great, make the dogwalks you do have access to really count, trial, and see where you're at!

thanks, really thanks for your encouragement and suggestions!! no I know 25 is insane... usually 20 or less... mostly less, and this time Silvia did say keep it short... but on the positive side... I guess its a good thing for her its not weaves I asked her to do 25 times
